Motherland

I only have a few memories of my childhood in Bern: There are the sad bears in the “Bear Pit” and the orange braided sugar candies at the "Zwibelifest". Then there are those photos in black and white with strange people that I can't place. One photo in particular has preoccupied me for decades: me as a toddler posing next to two older blond children against a black background. Who were these two children? They are part of a time which my mother has very little to say about: her time as a guest worker in Switzerland.
