Once a week, while studying painting, I made a pilgrimage to the historic film club Cinema Spazio Uno. There, I could experience exciting retrospectives of the great film masters: Truffaut, Fassbinder, Rohmer, Tarkowsky, Richard Leacock and Pennebaker: the latter had developed a new cinematic realism, which was able to reproduce events and people with a directness and proximity never experienced before, using light moving cameras.

Through Harun Farocki, Christian Berger and Klaus Stanjek, I later came into contact with filmmaking at the Zelig film school. What generous teachers! Over the years I decided to choose observational camera. I avoid explanatory off-camera commentary and let the protagonists speak for themselves in situational scenes.

By filming, I tread lightly into new worlds and each time become a grateful pupil.

Because life is an eternal school...
